Troubleshooting

The custom keyboard does not appear

Open Setup -> Keyboard and select the in-app keyboard. A connected hardware keyboard can make Android prefer physical-keyboard input; disconnect it or switch the preference back to the in-app keyboard. System keyboard mode remains available for Gboard, Samsung Keyboard, and other IMEs.

A keyer will not connect

Open Devices -> KEYER, grant the Nearby devices/Bluetooth permission, turn Bluetooth on, and use CONNECT KEYER. Keep the 9A5N QRQ or Pico Keyer powered and close to the phone during discovery. If it was connected before, use the remembered-device card or forget and pair it again.

The radio connects but frequency does not update

The RADIO tab currently targets Yaesu FT-857/897 CAT over a Bluetooth serial adapter. Confirm the adapter is powered, the radio CAT rate matches the adapter configuration, and only one app is using the serial connection. Disconnect, power-cycle the adapter, and use CONNECT RADIO again.

The GPS grid action times out

Grant location permission, turn on Android location services, and try outdoors or near a window. The app requests one fix and converts it to a Maidenhead locator. Every grid field also supports manual entry, so location permission is optional.

QRZ.com says login rejected

Open Setup -> QRZ.com, enter the same username and password used on the QRZ.com website, and run TEST before saving. A network connection is required. Clear the stored credentials and save them again if the account password recently changed.

A new prefix or country is not recognised

Open Setup -> Country database and run the manual refresh. The app keeps a bundled cty.dat file for offline prefix resolution and periodically checks for newer data when a network connection is available.

The map is empty or a contact is approximate

A QSO with a grid square can be positioned directly. When the grid is missing but DXCC information exists, the app can fall back to a country centroid, so the marker is intentionally approximate. Google Maps also needs a working data connection.

The app did not flag a duplicate

Check Setup -> Duplicate detection. The master switch can be combined with By band and By mode. The warning is advisory and checks the existing log; it never prevents you from logging a legitimate repeat contact.

I am moving to another phone

There is no account-based cloud sync. Export important sessions to ADIF and use Setup -> Backup & Restore for the available JSON backup. Android device transfer or Auto Backup may also restore app data depending on the device and Google backup settings.

Auto theme stays on one palette

Auto follows the ambient-light sensor with a wide threshold gap so it does not flicker around changing light. Very gradual changes may therefore take time to cross a threshold. Devices without a light sensor fall back to Outdoor; Indoor and Outdoor can always be selected manually.

Report a bug

A useful report includes the Android version, phone model, app version from Setup -> About, exact steps, expected result, actual result, and a screenshot when the problem is visual.

Feature requests

Concrete operating workflows are more useful than feature names. Tell us where you operate, what equipment is involved, and which step currently slows you down. The product remains focused on CW, SSB, and FM session logging, field readability, Bluetooth keyers, radio CAT, maps, stats, and reliable export.

Pocket QSO Logger is Android-only and requires Android 8.0 or newer.
